Why should separate manure?

Raw manure is inconvenient to transports and store, if not separated and stored properly, they will be an environmental hazard. Separating out manure solids from liquid slurry reduces the volume of manure storage The interval between cleaning /sludge removal can be extended and there is typically a reduction in the maintenance and renewal requirement of the storage tank.

The farmer gains greater flexibility in the disposal and use of waste.  The liquid slurry is easier to handle, can be pumped more easily by irrigation or soil injection equipment .

The manure solids include higher concentrations of elements such as phosphorus, copper and zinc thus reducing the nutrient overloading on regularly irrigated land. They can be more easily transported and spread on fields. They can be stored more easily with less of an odour problem.
